Symbolic Systems Program Administration

About me: I joined the staff of Symbolic Systems as program coordinator in 1994, while I was a graduate student in Psychology, ending my first stint in 1996, and returning in 2000. I am now the associate director under Ivan Sag, who is the director of Symbolic Systems. I taught psychology at Koc University in istanbul (1996-'99) and did a year of full-time global justice activism (1999-2000). I teach and do research on the psychological and technical aspects of social decisions. My earlier background was in statistics (B.S./M.S., Stanford, 1985), artificial intelligence (SRI AI Center, 1985-'91) and psychology (Ph.D., Stanford, 1995). About me: I have been at Stanford since fall 2005 and recently joined the Symbolic Systems staff. I am also the Student Services Officer for Linguistics, which is why my office is in the Linguistics Department main office. Stop by and say hi!
Office info: Building 460, Room 127E (Linguistics Department). During the academic year my hours are M-F 8:30-5:30. During the summer they are M-F 8:00-4:00.

About me: I've been at Stanford as faculty since 1999 (and earlier as a PhD student). Somehow they decided to trust me this year as Graduate Studies Director. I'm sure they'll come to their senses soon. Most of my recent work is in probabilistic computational linguistics, but if I had more time I'd argue that I do have broader interests.
