Symbolic Systems Program - Summer Internships

The SSP Summer Internship Program allows declared Symbolic Systems majors who will be continuing their undergraduate study to work as research assistants on projects defined by Symbolic Systems faculty. The Internship Program is made possible through a combination of external research grants to faculty and a Departmental Grant to the Symbolic Systems Program from the Vice Provost for Undergradaute Education (VPUE). Internships are advertised to students and students post their descriptions securely on this website each winter in a decentralized process we call "Match Madness".

In addition to their project duties, SSP summer interns are expected to:

  • Attend special events for interns during the summer.
  • Submit evaluations to VPUE by the deadline at the end of the summer.
  • Give an oral presentation at the Symbolic Systems Forum in the autumn following the internship.
Some internships may also include part-time "pre-internships" during the spring for interns and their faculty supervisors who want to get an early start working together.

STUDENTS ONLY

If you are interested in being considered for an internship (and will not have graduated or fulfilled the requirements for your undergraduate degree at the end of this Spring Quarter), you should post a prospective intern profile on this website by Monday, February 16, 2009.

Click here to create or update your internship profile.

Note: If you are interested in working with Computer Science Department researchers, you may also want to apply through the CS Department's CURIS program (application deadline: Tuesday, February 10, 2009). SSP students are eligible to apply for either program, although priority for CS Department summer internships is given to CS majors. CS Department faculty who are SSP-affiliated may offer internships under either program.

FACULTY ONLY

If you are interested in sponsoring an internship, you should post an internship description on this website by Monday, February 16, 2009. If you are offering multiple internships, you should post a separate description for each one.

Click here to create or edit your internship descriptions.

Beginning Tuesday, February 17, 2009, click here to see the profiles that students have submitted.

FACULTY AND STUDENTS

Beginning Tuesday, February 17, 2009, click here to see the descriptions that faculty have posted. Pairings between students and faculty are left to the initiative of both groups. If you are a student and see a project description that interests you, you should contact the sponsoring faculty/researchers. Faculty, likewise, are encouraged to contact students whose interests and qualifications match the internships they are offering. Check back after the first visibility date, as new internships may have been added in the meantime.
